Jewel beetles or metallic wood-boring beetles reflect light, showing off some brilliant, glossy, iridescent colors. But what is really surprising is their ability to detect flames of a forest fire over 50 miles away, whereas they are the first arrivals in an inhospitable environment, they escape any predators in the smoldering barks of burnt trees.
